Shrine of the Scorpion Lords

Introduction

The desert outpost Fort Drywater is in need of help to stop the menace of the dreaded Scorpion Lords—an evil group of half-men half-scorpion marauders bent on ridding the desert of outsiders. Drywater, a rough and tumble oasis in the desert wastes, has its regular supply lines being crippled. With this remote edge of civilization now in the Scorpion Lord's hands, they are known, have started attacking the incoming supply caravans leaving no survivors. It's only a matter of time before they turn on Drywater to finish them off.

Fort Drywater

The outpost sits on the outskirts of the civilized realm. Merely 71 citizens—mostly human and some halfling—make their living here for one reason or another. The remoteness of Drywater is its own charm. The Scoundrel Fox is the local dive and is the only place to buy a decent meal or a bed. Meals and drinks are a silver piece and a bed for the night is 3 silver.

The Desert Wastes

Sand for as far as the eye can see in every direction. It is 3 days travel by horse/walking west on the road to the nearest town. The lands here are unforgiving and water is scarce. Travel by day can be arduous and requires 3 times as much water. The Desert is considered difficult to traverse so half as much distance can be covered in one day.

The Shrine

Among the dunes in the desert, miles away from the nearest civilized town, the black marble entrance to the Scorpion Lord Shrine stands—a monument of their sinister nature. No one dares approach the shrine, certainly not by their own choice. Dark marble steps descend deep down into the dark and cold temple.

Referee's Notes: All doors within the shrine are stuck 3-in-6. Stuck doors require a Brute DS 8 roll to open. Each attempt will cause a loud noise incurring a wandering monster roll.

Female Human Craftsman. Ellys is tall, with brown hair and green eyes. She wears modest garments and a wooden holy symbol. Ellys is searching for her sister, Chanti, who should have come in with the latest caravan.

Rowan Berzik

Female Halfling Thief. Rowan has tangled red hair and green eyes. She wears leather armor and wields a short sword and sling. Rowan compulsively lies and will try to swindle the players before making an escape.

Burcan Anjos

Male Human captain of the Drywater guard. Burcan is rough in appearance, with a short beard and piercing blue eyes. He wears a black cloak over his armor. Burcan has a bounty of 100 silver each to the group that can eliminate the Scorpion Lord threat.
